Timber and plywood serve many DIY purposes around the house, but most stores, including Wickes, sell them in large panels. If you don’t have adequate cutting tools at home, you may have second thoughts when it comes to choosing the retailer. Affordable prices are nice, and all, but Wickes wood cutting services would be better. That’s where the question comes:
Topics
Does Wickes Provide Cutting Services?
Unfortunately, Wickes doesn’t provide wood cutting services. The retailer doesn’t mention this service on its website, nor does it advertise it in stores. Anecdotal evidence suggests that some larger Wickes stores provide such a service. However, you may want to shop from another retailer, such as B&Q, if you don’t want to risk looking for independent timber cutting services.
Does B&Q Have a Cutting Service?
Unlike Wickes, B&Q is cutting wood to size in its stores, as it is clearly advertised on the B&Q website. You have to know, though, that there are conditions and limitations.
The B&Q cut to size service is only offered to customers who’ve bought the timber in-store. You don’t need an appointment, meaning that you can have the timber panels cut to size on the spot. However, the service may vary from branch to branch, and it could be unavailable in some branches.

That said, you can have your timber cut in most branches, and there is no limit on how many cuts you can require.
As part of its policy, B&Q offers the first 15 cuts for free. If you need more pieces, each cut required over the threshold costs 50p. That’s a small price to pay to cut wood in store, considering that most carpenters would charge you much more for the job.
The only thing to have in mind is the operational capability and limitations of the saws B&Q specialists use:
Saw type | Min panel length | Max panel length | Min panel height | Max panel height | Max panel thickness |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Vertical panel saw | 500mm | 3300mm | 230mm | 2160mm | 80mm |
Cross cut saw | - | 3000mm | - | 150mm | 125mm |
